Updating a Builder Grade Fireplace

Our clients had an interesting dilemma in this Master Bedroom. It had a great feature - a built-in gas fireplace, but there were two issues with it: 1. The fireplace was bulky, and the framing around it was no longer functional (thank you, flat screen televisions) and 2. The fireplace heated the room so quickly that you could only stand to have it on for 5-10 minutes at a time!

We opted to change out the gas fireplace unit for an electric unit that would produce less heat but still give our clients the fireplace feature in their room. Electric fireplaces have less clearance requirements for framing, so we were able to make the new fireplace bump-out much smaller, making their room more functional.

Since we were starting from scratch with an entirely new fireplace unit, we were able to relocate it - so we centered it along the wall in their bedroom, featured better than in the corner like it had been.

We installed a mosaic chevron marble tile from floor to ceiling to complete the look (I liked this tile even more once it was installed-such a great neutral color variation!). Now they have a fireplace that’s both elegant and functional.

While this isn’t the final finished product (carpet + paint still to be completed), this new fireplace was definitely an upgrade to their space - adding beauty and functionality.
