Get the Look: Modern Cottage Kitchen
If you’re trying to create your own modern cottage kitchen, here are some details on the one we created!
We opted for timeless white shaker cabinets (which style-wise, could really go traditional or modern depending on your preferences) and oversized cabinet pulls for a modern touch. We contrasted black countertops at the perimeter of the kitchen with white countertops at the island and had new oak floors laced-in so the kitchen flows seamlessly into the dining and living rooms.
Lighting in any kitchen is key, so while we added a window to this space (yay for natural light!) we also added recessed can lighting throughout and pendant lights at the island. The range hood also has lighting that is extremely helpful when cooking.
The backsplash tile and 48” wide range really are the real stars of this kitchen. We opted for pure black grout at the backsplash to continue our high-contrast theme in the room and to really show off the geometry of the scallops. Also, from an install perspective they can be installed this direction to be more like scales, or opposite to look more like fans. Changes the look completely!
We built and painted the island for additional storage (it houses the trash can, microwave and spice cabinet) as well as providing nice kitchen seating and opening up the space to the dining room.
