Kitchen Cabinet Hardware: Things to Consider

There aren’t any rules for cabinet hardware install, but there are a few different options for the type of hardware you select. When it comes to design and style, there are thousands of options - but here are some cabinet hardware considerations for your kitchen remodel.

Option 1: All Pulls

This is the most modern option - you can get oversized pulls which is even better (size options depend on which collection and brand of pulls you are looking at). Pulls would be used on both doors and drawers for a clean and modern look. For wider drawers, consider longer pulls or using two.

Option 2: Mix of Knobs and Pulls

This option is a nice variation and is typically considered more of a traditional look (although you can change it to your style with the type of hardware you select). Typically you would have knobs on cabinet doors, and pulls on drawers. I have had clients do pulls on larger (think pantry style) cabinet doors as well for easier use).

Option 3: All Knobs

This is the least used option among my clients. You can have knobs for both the cabinet doors and the drawers. Its definitely the least expensive- as knobs are typically less expensive than pulls, but I find that most people prefer a pull to a knob on drawers.

The next consideration for your cabinet hardware is placement. Do you want all of your pulls in the center of the drawer? Centered at the top? And with knobs, do you want them in the bottom corner of the door, or centered on the stile? These are other considerations to keep in mind as well.

Those are a few considerations for cabinet hardware for your next kitchen remodel. Typically my clients look at inspiration photos and will find that usually their selections have a similar theme when it comes to hardware. That’s a great way to figure out what my be the best solution for you.
